ASKA LIVE PERFORMANCES ON HOLD

ASKA continues to work on their forthcoming, fifth full length CD of new material. The band admits that the disc is behind schedule and they plan to correct this by taking the next few months off from the live stage to concentrate their efforts on the completion of the disc. The new disc, as yet untitled, has an expected release date of Christmas 2004. The following is a tentative track listing: Freedom, Legion, Her Ghost: Remains, Warrior Poets, Message From God, Longship, By This Axe I Rule, L.O.T.R. One Ring (To Rule Them All), Love Then Oblivion, Black Flight, & Queen Of Goths.

ASKA FEATURED ON NEW COMPILATION DISC

Adrenaline/Steelheart records, the label responsible for bringing ASKA's "AVENGER" to the European metal fans, recently released "A TRIBUTE TO THE GLORY OF 80's METAL" , a new disc which spotlights the label's stable of artists and sees each paying their own special homage via song to bands like Judas Priest, Manowar, & Iron Maiden. The disc features bands like ASKA, Black Steel, Drakkar, Aztec Jade, and many more doing their versions of classic metal songs from the 80's. ASKA's featured track, Iron Maiden's "Flight of Icarus" was previously only available on the 2 disc "Children of the Damned" tribute to Iron Maiden set released by Adrenaline Records some years back. Contact your favorite Metal music retailer to purchase a copy. The disc's booklet is the first official release featuring a photo of new ASKA guitarist, Daryl Norton.

ASKA SETS ATTENDANCE RECORD, HOSTS MUSIC LUMINARIES

ASKA's June 26th show at MONTE CARLO's in Arlington set the new attendance record for the club. In addition to the large number of rock fans present, 3/4 of the cast and crew of DAMAGEPLAN were in attendance and made impromptu guest appearances onstage with ASKA. George Call was spotted several nights later singing Karaoke with 'Dime' and some others at an undisclosed club in Arlington, Texas. According to the band, this will be the band's last appearance for a while.

ASKA FRIEND AND SONG COLLABORATOR FOUND DEAD

Steve Cooper, former roommate of Keith Knight and longtime friend of ASKA was found dead in his Louisiana country home. The cause of death given by the local medical examiner's office was suicide. Mr. Cooper had apparently been seperated from his wife and family and had been prescribed anti-depressant medication. A neighbor and members of Mr. Cooper's church group entered Cooper's home after noticing that he hadn't been seen for some time. He was found hanging over the bathtub in his bathroom. No note was found but friend's say Mr. Cooper had been despondent for some time. Keith Knight was spotted among the mourners at Mr. Cooper's memorial service. According to Mr. Cooper's prior wishes, he was cremated. Mr. Cooper had been involved with the ASKA camp from near it's inception to the present day. His name can be found on the credits of several of the band's songs as far back as their first CD "VICES" where he is credited for singing background vocals to ASKA's '97 "NINE TONGUES" CD where Cooper shares songwriter credits on "THE QUESTION". Cooper also fronted his own band, PRIME EXAMPLE, where he partnered with another longtime ASKA friend and webmaster/designer, Tony Robinson. The group disbanded when Cooper moved to Louisiana to care for an ailing family member.

The following statement was released by members of ASKA:

"Steve was like a brother to us man. He was there from as early as Keith's first official rehearsal with the band well over 15 years ago so this has been pretty heavy for us. He was there for everything man, the early tours, rehearsals, songwriting sessions, the fights and arguments, the orgies. He was such an even-keeled guy. Never angry always had a smile on his face and could find the humor in every situation. When we were being complete assholes to each other he would step in and try to lighten the situation with his humor and wild conspiracy theories. He was the king of the conspiracy theories and could do a mean Gene Simmons impersonation. He was also an extremely creative and original songwriter who zealously guarded over his library of songs like a prison guard. Even when he moved away he made it a point to catch us everytime we'd play his state no matter how far he had to drive. He loved ASKA and ASKA loved him. We will miss him terribly and take some small consolation in knowing that at the very least Steve at last know's the truth about everything. Rest well brother and may your spirit soar through the heavens."

JASON SWEATT BACK IN THE FOLD

After more than a two year absence from the band, drummer Jason Sweatt, returns to ASKA.

The official announcement filtered through our offices this morning and stated that the band were in high spirits and looking forward to picking up where they left off.

ASKA members George Call, Keith Knight, and Daryl Norton had the following to say to us about their reunion with Sweatt:

ASKA STAFF: How did this reunion come about? Had it been in the planning stages for some time?

George Call: Was it planned? Absolutely not. It just kind of happened is the best I can tell you really. Jason had come out to a couple of shows and had done some cameo appearances with us... it was always good to see him and always a thrill to play with him. Somehow we found out that he was in-between bands, I think his girlfriend had mentioned something..."

Keith Knight: And he had moved into my neighborhood just a few blocks over from the house.

AS: So he called wanting his old job back?

KK: No, no. It was nothing like that. I just kind of got together with Jason, had a few cold ones, hung out and it seemed real clear that we still had a lot of chemistry and friendship. We reminisced about the band and kind of had a mutual "what if..?" moment. I talked it over with George and Daryl and then we all got together, just to hang out and eat pizza and stuff and it felt good. We were having a good time together and enjoying each other's company to such an extent that I think we all knew right then and there that it was only a matter of time.

Daryl Norton: I agree. It was like our brother was back.

GC: The four of us basically decided to sleep on it; how we would all feel about playing together again and we'd go from there....
I think what kind of might have touched it all off was that a project that Jason, Keith, and I had worked on had recently been completed and I sent Keith to give Jason his copy of the pre-production promo of it.

AS: What project?

GC: It was a 3-disc musical called "The Jew". The three of us had singing and spoken, acting parts on it. It was something we had worked on a few years back between episodes of ASKA 5-0.

AS: And?

GC: Well, here we are. The Justice League of America is back!

AS: What about Danny White, Jason's replacement. How did he take it, or did he know what was going on? Is he looking to kick some ass?

GC: Well, none of us knew, really, what was going on other than we were rekindling our friendship with Jason but we did talk to Danny about it.

DN: I think he knew, you know, that something like this was always a possibility.

GC: Danny's still a brother man. He was gracious enough to step aside with his dignity and his head held high and made what might have otherwise been painful and difficult for everybody, including Jason, a smooth process. We're grateful for the time he spent with us and respect his professionalism.

AS: Will Jason and Danny have a fistfight now?

(GC & KK look at each other nodding their heads, smiling. GC points at me.)
DN: Dude!

AS: Kidding! Well then now that Jason is back, what are the band's immediate plans?

KK: Well, immediately we want to try to finish up our new CD and do some shopping. We've actually already got a deal in the bag but why rest on our laurels? We want more. We've also already done some initial recording with Jason and our rehearsals are pure rush. This band is on fire again and we're all committed 110% to its progression.

AS: I hear that! By the way, you guys sounded great last night. I had goose bumps all over.

GC,KK,DN: (all smile).

AS: So when can I speak with Jason about all of this?

GC: Soon as he gets out of jail...DUDE!

-----------------------------------------------------------

Sweatt had been ASKA's first touring drummer and has traveled the world with the band on no less than seven world tours. He was featured on ASKA's critically acclaimed "AVENGER" CD and on the Adrenaline Records Tribute to Iron Maiden 2-disc-set, "Children of the Damned". He is also featured drunk off his ass on ASKA's "ANGELS OF WAR" video stealing items from and trashing his hotel room somewhere on tour.
